SIGSPATIAL DEI's mission is to promote, guide, and sustain diversity, equity, and inclusion in all our activities and publications. We strive to adopt a welcoming and inclusive mindset towards individuals of all backgrounds. We aim to discourage discriminatory behavior and support underrepresented groups through resources such as mentorship, networking opportunities, and attendance at our annual conferences. Our initiative is in collaboration with D&I in DB, following the ACM policy against harassment and processes for reporting unacceptable behavior.
Our goal is to promote a positive, diverse, and inclusive environment within the ACM SIGSPATIAL community, creating the grounds to foster professional growth, facilitate networking, and maintain productive professional relationships among our members, regardless of age, gender identity, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, country of origin, religion, sexual orientation, physical ability, education, and work experience. We expect all our members to strive to abide by and help promote these guidelines.
Please refer to the SIGSPATIAL DEI Committee when an unacceptable behavior happens. Also, a target can report to event chairs, the executives of respective conferences, or other event organizers who have been designated to handle such complaints. The conference executives make the final decision on the consequences of unaccepted behaviors and take action accordingly. They help a target understand the process and possible consequences in a confidential manner. If, with full information, a target decides to report, then the SIGSPATIAL DEI Committee will assist in filing an official complaint and follow up with the conference and ACM SIGSPATIAL executives on appropriate actions to execute. This also applies when a witness becomes aware of an unacceptable behavior directed at another member of the community. Our code of conduct is adapted from the one in D&I in DB, which mirrors closely the Policy against Harassment at ACM Activities. Should you have any questions, please reach out to the SIGSPATIAL DEI Committee.
